RCI Workers Choose Pittsburgh Metro APWU
WELCOME RCI PMAPWU MEMBERS!
Resource Consultants Incorporated (RCI) is located next to the L&DC, about a mile away from the BMC, in Warrendale PA. The company is a Mail Transportation Equipment Service Center (MTESC) that works exclusively under contract with the Postal Service. The National Labor Board determined that there are 105 bargaining unit employees in the company with the right to vote in a union election.
In early-September, RCI workers, who were obviously on a mission to unionize, contacted PMAPWU. After a few meetings with core leaders and beginning the card-signing process, we provided open forums for all RCI bargaining unit employees to meet away from their employer, with our officers, to discuss among themselves and with us their concerns and direction. At one such meeting, APWU members from the Detroit Local, who have organized their MTESC, shared their input and support.
On September 24th, PMAPWU filed a Petition for Representation, and by October 8th, we had reached stipulations for an election without having to proceed through Hearing. Their election took place on November 3rd, and the result was a resounding Union Yes vote of 70 - 22 with 6 outstanding ballots challenged by the employer.
Even before the tally was confirmed, RCI was handed our request to begin negotiations. Our new Brothers and Sisters at RCI are to be commended and congratulated in taking this first vital step towards having a collective voice in their working conditions.
