Sound Familiar?

On October 23, 2006 Arbitrator Philip Tamoush awarded $12,799,200.00 to Mail Handlers in Phoenix, AZ and $100,800.00 to NPMHU Local #320 for lost union dues.

The arbitrator found that USPS utilized the supplemental workforce (casual-category employees ) on "a year-round basis in lieu of , instead of, in place of , full or part-time employees, in violation of Article 7.1 B of the National Agreement."

The total dollar amount of the settlement is $13.8 million.

$100,800.00 will be paid to the local union for lost union dues.

$12,799,200.00 will be divided among all mailhandlers who were on the rolls in the Phoenix installation during the period of July 1, 1997 to May 31, 2003 on a pro-rated basis. A mail handler would have had to have passed their 90 day probation period in order to be eligible for payment.

$900,000.00 will be divided equally among all current mail handlers in the Phoenix installation and Eat Valley DDC as of the date of this settlement. This amount is a global settlement that deals with all casual grievances that were pending the outcome of the Tamoush Award. The EVDDC is included because they also had grievances that were on hold pending the outcome of this case.
