The City of Pittsburgh now has a strong Living Wage law that takes effect January 1, 2002. Pittsburgh's Living Wage law passed City Council on May 22nd and became law when Mayor Murphy returned the bill on June 4th without his signature. The efforts of Campaign volunteers was essential to the passage of this bill and now the push is on for similar legislation for Allegheny County.

The Living Wage legislation sponsored by Allegheny County Council members Crossey, Simms, Fitzgerald and Martoni was introduced in September 2000 and is now being considered by a special Living Wage Committee. The Western Pennsylvania Living Wage Campaign is asking county residents to send County Council members a message that they want this bill passed now. They are asking county residents to:

  • Call, email, or fax County Council members to let them know you support
immediate passage of the Living Wage bill sponsored by Council members
Simms, Crossey, Fitzgerald and Martoni. Ask them to contact you with
    their position on the bill.

  • Volunteer to help with mailings, phone calls, meetings, actions, etc.
