Your Voting Rights as an American Citizen
Did you know...?
In 2002, Congress passed the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), which includes the right to cast a "provisional ballot" if your eligibility to vote is challenged. Even those who have voted before could experience problems casting their ballots.
Did you know...?
The five top risks for eligible voters include registration problems, erroneous purging of names, problems with the new identification requirement, difficulties with voting systems and a failure to count provisional ballots.
Did you know...?
To ensure every vote is counted in the 2004 election, the AFL-CIO, affiliated unions and their allies launched the My Vote, My Right campaign to educate voters about their rights. You can access individual state voter bills of rights to educate other voters about their voting rights and learn about the risks eligible voters face this year when casting their ballots.
Please get out the message that Working Families Vote!
Did you know...?
Big business outspends working families in financial contributions to political campaigns on a 12-1 basis but guess what?
You can't be outspent on your vote.
Visit the Working Families Vote! website to learn more about your rights as an American voter, to participate in the choices our country makes, and ultimately, to help shape what our country will become for our futures, our livelihoods, and for the futures of our children. Do it today!

From ActForChange.com-- Help Stop Voter Supression:
One of the dirty tricks of American elections is "voter suppression," in which a campaign seeks to discourage or prevent supporters of the other side from voting. While this can be done with both illegal and legal means, it is fundamentally inconsistent with our ideals of greater civic participation and should be prosecuted where illegal and repudiated where not.
Over the last year, several disturbing examples have made clear that the close national election is bringing out the worst in American campaigns. For example, in a rare burst of candor, state Rep. John Pappageorge, a Michigan Republican, said, "If we do not suppress the Detroit vote, we're going to have a tough time in this election."
Voter suppression is fundamentally un-American, and Attorney General Ashcroft must make it clear that the full resources of the Justice Department are committed to ensuring a clean election in which all who are eligible and want to vote may do so free of dirty tricks and intimidation.

September 18, 2004 Membership Meeting Special Start Time
At 7:00 pm, one half hour before the start of the Regular Membership Meeting, all Union members are encouraged to hear guest speaker(s) address the audience. PMAPWU Legislative Director John Armstrong has been working diligently to provide a platform for political candidates to tell Union Members their views and commitments concerning Postal Workers, the right to organize, and Unionism in general. This forum is open to all union members, both Postal and non-Postal.
You are requested to invite Union friends and neighbors from all walks of life to pack the house and show these candidates that we are serious and concerned. You often see speakers addressing interest groups in the news, but rarely are we union brothers and sisters part of those groups. It's time we stand together in solidarity, and be counted.
Please make plans to attend, and bring your Union friends!
