Local Negotiations Period Set
excerpted from the APWU News Bulletin, #14-05

As a result of the ratification of the contract extension, local unions and management will have an opportunity to negotiate changes to local agreements during the 60-day period from Oct. 3 through Dec. 1, 2005.

Under the terms of the contract extension, existing local memorandums of understanding will remain in effect during any discussions, and can be changed only upon mutual agreement. Agreements may take effect upon the close of negotiations or at any date agreed to by the local parties.

Initial proposals must be exchanged within the first 21 days of the 30-consecutive-day period. If the local union and management fail to reach agreement at the conclusion of negotiations, either party may request a review by the representatives at the Area level. The local parties have until Dec. 15 to appeal. If agreement is not reached after discussion at the Area level within 30 days (or another mutually agreeable deadline), the current provisions of the local agreement will remain in effect.

PMAPWU Night at PNC Park

Saturday, August 27th, 2005 at 7:05pm, Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds

Our normal tradition of providing tickets to the ballgame after our Annual Labor Day Parade event will be slightly altered this year, since the Pirates aren't playing a game this year on Labor Day. Instead, we are providing tickets to a game earlier in the week. This is an opportunity for our members and their families to get together and join in Solidarity with their fellow brothers and sisters, for an evening of Pirate Baseball and a small tailgate party before the game.

Please visit the Events page for all the details, and remember:

Final deadline to order tickets (no exceptions!!) is Thursday, August 18th.

PMAPWU Sends Representatives to 2005 Bulk Mail Center Conference
( reposted from last week )

The annual Bulk Mail Center Conference takes place each year, allowing BMC representatives to discuss issues of special concern to BMC employees. The New York Metro Local, home of the New Jersey International BMC, hosted the conference this year, held on July 10 and 11, 2005.

Among the many topics discussed were equipment upgrades, staffing, jurisdictional issues, and the overall expected future of the BMCs. The tentative contract extension was discussed, with specific emphasis on BMC impact.

The New Jersey International BMC, as seen through the window

The 2005 host local, New York Metro, provided an eye-opening tour of their New Jersey BMC, which is about four times the size of ours here in Pittsburgh. On one evening of the trip, PMAPWU delegates got the chance to visit the Ground Zero Memorial, and view the awesome devastation of that tragic day.
