USPS Cited for Fourth Set of Safety Violations
excerpted from APWU Web News Article 052-2010

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) charged the Postal Service with five "willful" safety violations at the Philadelphia Bulk Mail Center on June 3, and fined the USPS $210,000. The latest citations bring the Postal Services total OSHA fines to more than $1 million.

OSHA said the USPS willfully and knowingly exposed employees to the risk of electric shock and burn hazards at the BMC, and failed to properly train employees on the use of electrically-energized machinery.

The most recent citations follow OSHA fines of more than $200,000 in Bedford Park, IL, more than $500,000 in Providence, RI, and more than $200,000 in Denver, CO last month for similar safety violations.

For additional information about the other violations, visit the APWU News and Events page.
